Green Solutions for Tharparkar - Combating Malnutrition and Poverty through Moringa Trees
1. Peace Foundation has experience plantation of Maringa tree project, which is particularly well-suited for the arid climate of Tharparkar. The Maringa tree, often referred to as the "miracle tree," provides valuable solutions to the region’s challenges of malnutrition, economic hardship, and environmental degradation. Its drought resistance and rich nutritional properties make it crucial for addressing chronic food insecurity and limited livelihoods. Peace Foundation’s activities include raising awareness in local communities about the many benefits of Moringa, training farmers—especially women—in cultivation, harvesting, and processing techniques, and establishing community-run nurseries. The organization has also organized village-level plantation drives and focused on soil and water conservation strategies to improve sapling survival rates. Efforts to integrate Moringa into local diets aim to combat malnutrition, while empowering women through capacity-building and market access has been a key initiative. Through the establishment of monitoring frameworks and collaboration with local stakeholders, Peace Foundation seeks to ensure the sustainability of the project, transforming Tharparkar into a more resilient and economically thriving region.
